A Support Group gathers parents together for fellowship, encouragement, sometimes workshops or classes. They might also simply provide a place for homeschoolers to meet and develop community.
Valley Home Educators (VHE) is a Christian support group that meets monthly throughout the school year. Through membership, you also have access to other extra-curricular activities and a monthly newsletter providing information on events and other items of interest to homeschoolers in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham county area. Their website has not been updated recently, but you can still find a membership form and address there along with some information about the organization. Charlotte Mason Support Group meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm at various locations. We’ll discuss a different Charlotte Mason topic, i.e. narration, nature study, etc., at each gathering. Contact Zoe Hansen at zshansen@ntelos.net for more details.
Homeschool Store: Christian Light Publications is located at 1050 Mt. Clinton Pike, Harrisonburg. Christian Light Education produced a full line of curriculum for grades K-12 and offers support. Check out their website for workshops and events.
Raw Learning is a secular group in Staunton for K-12 homeschoolers that offers weekly classes, field trips, and parent discussion groups. Some of the classes include: A Makers Class, Science and Math, Fun with Food, Connecting with Nature, Nature Art, etc. Rules are decided by consensus and the emphasis seems to be on equality for everyone.
